2 lb. Closed Cell Foam Systems

(Above:) Closed Cell Example: Working off a gas molecule, the dense Closed Cell foam fills every void

throughout its solid surface, allowing no air or moisture to pass through it.

 How it Works

Closed Cell: Our Closed Cell Spray Foam is a two-component gas molecule blown spray foam. The two components, made up of polyol resin and isocyanate are mixed to a 1:1 ratio and in instant reaction expand into a core density of 1.9-2.2 pound per cubic foot. While Closed Cell Spray Foam provides the most superior thermal insulation for the interior of a building, it also stops all air infiltration when installed correctly.

 Application

Upstate Spray Foam Insulation applies Closed Cell 2 lb. foam into open-wall cavities, crawl-spaces, perimeter joists (any exposed rim or band-joist), and cathedral/sloped ceilings at an industry leading heat resistance rating of R-7 per inch. While the product must be installed to local code, the amount of application varies. Our Closed Cell Foam, when applied correctly, creates its own vapor retarder (vapor barrier) and while it is being applied, fully cures to touch within 15-seconds.

 Requirements

During application, all surfaces must be free of oil, grease, and debris. The surface must be dry as well. When applying Closed Cell Foam the working area temperature must be a minimum of 40-degrees Fahrenheit. Unfortunately, Spray Foam systems cannot be installed into existing homes, unless the un-insulated surface is completely exposed.

 Ending Result

Closed Cell Spray Foam is the most excellent insulation not only for its resistance to heat transfer but for its water resistance and ability to air-seal your home or building. With these traits, the efficiency gained will contribute to significant energy savings, throughout the life of a building and will also benefit the owner with allowing the use of a smaller capacity heating and/or cooling unit. The more efficient your home is, the less capacity you need! With the rising cost of heating, you are sure to see your Return-on-Investment in a short period of time using Closed Cell Spray Foam!

Just a Few Characteristics of Closed Cell 2 lb. Spray Foam

Heat Resistance Rating of R-7 per inch
Creates its own vapor barrier
Seals Every Nook and Cranny when applied correctly closing off possible air and moisture leaks or existing leakage areas.
Seals around recessed lighting, electrical outlet boxes, wiring intrusions and all bypasses.
Adds 100% Structural Strength to the applied surface

½ lb. Open Cell Foam Systems

(Above:) Open Cell Example: As a Sponge-like Insulation, Open Cell is soft to the touch,

working off an air molecule as its insulator

 How it Works

Open Cell: Our Open Cell Spray Foam is a two-component water blown spray foam. When its two components mix they react instantly and expand into a low-density, open cell foam with an in-place core density of 0.45 - 0.55 pound per cubic foot. Open Cell Foam provides thermal insulation for the interior of buildings. Open Cell also only reduces air infiltration, where Closed Cell Foam Systems stop it.

 Application

Upstate Spray Foam Insulation applies Open Cell ½ lb. Foam Systems into open-wall cavities, crawl-spaces, perimeter joists (any exposed rim or band-joist), cathedral/sloped ceilings at a heat resistance rating of R-3.6 per inch. While the product must be installed to local code, the amount of application varies. All Open Cell Foam systems also require a vapor diffusion retarder (vapor barrier) after application. This system fully cures to touch within 15-seconds.

 Requirements

During application, all surfaces must be free of oil, grease, and debris. The surface must be dry as well. When applying Open Cell Foam the working area temperature must be a minimum of 40-degrees Fahrenheit. Unfortunately, Spray Foam systems cannot be installed into existing homes, unless the un-insulated surface is completely exposed.

 Ending Result

In carrying half of the R-value in that of Closed Cell Foam, Open Cell also lacks performance in condensating or moisture prone areas. Where Closed Cell Foam completely turns away and repels the moisture, Open Cell will absorb it into its sponge-like surface. Open Cell Foam must be applied in much more thickness than Closed Cell Foam because of its low R-value rating however it is consistently considered as the next best insulation behind Closed Cell. Considered a semi-rigid foam, it adds minor structural strength to your home or building while still filling every nook and cranny, sealing all voids from the outside elements.
