The foundation of a home is one of the biggest sources of energy loss and uncomfortable drafts. This week, the Upstate Spray Foam & HVAC crew tackled just that, ensuring a home in Clifton Springs, NY, is better protected, more efficient, and much more comfortable!
Foundation Work: Sealing and Insulating
Our team was on-site to address both the basement and the often-neglected crawlspace. Here’s a breakdown of the work that went into this vital home upgrade:
- Air Sealing the Basement Ceiling: Before insulating, the crew meticulously air sealed the basement ceiling. This step is crucial because air leaks (or drafts) are a major source of heat loss in the winter and humidity intrusion in the summer. Sealing these gaps is the first step toward true energy efficiency.
- R-14 Closed Cell Foam: We then applied R-14 closed cell spray foam to the crawlspace’s exterior walls and the rim joist.
Why Closed Cell Spray Foam?
Closed cell spray foam is the ideal choice for this application because it’s not just powerful insulation; it’s a barrier against the elements:
- It stops drafts and heat transfer.
- It creates a robust barrier against moisture and humidity, protecting the structure.
- It adds structural stability to the rim joist area.
The result is a home that’s now much better protected from drafts, moisture, and significant energy loss, making it more comfortable and efficient year-round.
